In design and development 3D Scanning is a key tool/skill to have.
3D Digital Scanning can be used to modify an existing design or simply to duplicate it. There are many different 3D scanning technologies which all have their advantages and limitations. Structured Light Scanning is used to create very high-resolution models with a fairly large amount of user input for alignment. Photogrammetry can be used to create low accuracy, quick models of an object using only a camera. A series of photos or a video around an object can easily be turned into a 3D model for reference during a design process.
